Building Strength, Confidence, and Character

At Alpha Gymnastics Academy Windsor, our Boys Only Gymnastics program is designed specifically to develop the strength, discipline, and confidence young athletes need, both in and out of the gym.

Each class begins with warm-ups and stretching to build flexibility and prevent injury, followed by skill progressions and drills that lay the foundation for core gymnastics techniques. Boys train on all six Olympic apparatus (Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and High Bar) plus use of our in-ground trampoline, foam pit, and specialized training equipment for a fun, safe, and challenging experience.

What is MEN’S GYMNASTICS?

Men’s Gymnastics provides a fun and safe outlet for boys from 5 to 12 years old, where strength and discipline are key factors. Applying strength across six different apparatus, Alpha boys build confidence and test any young thrill-seekers, through the development of mobility, endurance, flexibility and coordination.

Vault (VT)

Vaulting showcases the gymnast’s speed, strength, and explosive power.
Each performance begins with a 25-metre run-up on a one-metre-wide carpet runway. Upon take-off from the springboard, the gymnast propels himself upward and forward, pushing dynamically off the vault table to achieve maximum height and distance.

Judges evaluate body alignment, technique, height, distance, and control upon landing. The more complex the vault, involving saltos and twists, the higher the difficulty score.

Parallel Bars (PB)

The Parallel Bars consist of two 3.5-metre-long wooden rails, supported by a metal frame and adjustable between 42 cm and 52 cm apart.
A parallel bars routine features mostly swinging and flight elements, interspersed with moments of strength and balance.

Gymnasts perform from various positions, support, hang, and upper arm, executing swings, flight transitions, and under-bar elements such as the basket swing. The routine showcases acrobatic flights, changes of direction, and seamless control both above and below the bars.

Performances conclude with a dynamic dismount that highlights power, extension, and precision in landing.

Pommel Horse (PH)

The Pommel Horse is renowned for its difficulty and technical precision. Routines consist of continuous circular movements with the legs together (circles) and pendulous swings with the legs separated (scissors).

Throughout the routine, only the gymnast’s hands may touch the apparatus, while the body maintains an extended line and consistent rhythm as he turns and travels along the horse.
Mastery of this event requires tremendous endurance, balance, and timing.
The Pommel Horse exemplifies control and rhythm. Every skill is connected in one seamless flow.

Floor Exercise (FX)

The floor apparatus measures 12×12 metres with a one-metre run-off perimeter, and gymnasts are required to use the entire area during their routine.

This event is a pure display of acrobatics, alternating between powerful tumbling passes and the composure required for balance and strength elements.

Unlike the women’s floor exercise, men’s routines are not performed to music and focus instead on rhythm, control, and dynamic movement.

Still Rings (SR)

Suspended three metres above the ground, the Rings demand exceptional upper body strength, stability, and precision.

The free-swinging nature of the rings makes it extremely difficult to remain motionless during held elements, and any unnecessary movement incurs a penalty.

Gymnasts must demonstrate absolute control throughout, keeping the rings still and their bodies perfectly aligned. Each performance concludes with a powerful dismount showcasing aerial awareness and strength in landing.

High Bar (HB)

The Horizontal Bar, positioned between 2.5 and 3 metres high, is one of the most spectacular and crowd-pleasing apparatus in men’s gymnastics. The 2.4-metre bar provides the stage for acrobatic release moves, re-grasps, and continuous giant swings performed with fluid rhythm and courage.

Routines incorporate forward and backward giant swings, changes of grip and direction, and high-flying release elements that require impeccable timing and awareness.

The finale, a high, twisting dismount, allows gymnasts to demonstrate their aerial skill, strength, and precision in the ultimate display of control and athletic artistry.
